Japan names starting XI for World Cup knockout match against Brazil

Japan's national football team released its starting lineup for the Round of 32 World Cup match against Brazil. Coach Hajime Moriyasu reinstated defenders Takehiro Tomiyasu and Sano Kaishu, while midfielders Shogo Taniguchi, Daizen Maeda and others also returned to the eleven. Forward Takumi Minamino starts on the wing, and the bench includes Kubo Takehiro, who remains on the sidelines following a shoulder injury that kept him out of the opening game against the Netherlands.

After Japan fell 1‑2 to Brazil, Kubo spoke to the press and criticized the younger squad members, saying they have not yet reached a level to challenge the current starters and that he hopes new talent will emerge in the next two to three years. He added that he is focused on improving his own game and will strive to earn more playing time.

Moriyasu reiterated that the team will rely on experienced players for the upcoming knockout round, while also keeping an eye on future prospects.
