Japan national teams prepare for major international championships

Japanese national teams across multiple disciplines are preparing for major international competitions.

In women's volleyball, the national team secured the top spot in their group at the Asian Championship in Tianjin, China, following a dominant performance against Vietnam. 20-year-old Misora Akimoto stood out in her first start, contributing nine points. The team aims to win the championship to secure a spot in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The men's volleyball team recently faced Brazil in an international friendly in Tokyo, losing 1-3. Despite the defeat, players like Ran Takahashi and Yuki Ishikawa viewed the match as a vital test of their readiness for the upcoming Asian Championship in Kitakyushu, which also serves as an Olympic qualifier.

In men's basketball, the national team achieved two consecutive victories against South Korea in friendly matches at Ariake Arena. The squad featured NBA players Rui Hachimura and Yuki Kawamura, building momentum for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.

In men's handball, the 'Comet JAPAN' team announced its roster for the second intensive training camp held in Tokyo. The 18-member squad is preparing for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, where they will aim for the gold medal.
