Japan Oshi-katsu Awards honor Kento Nakajima and AKB48

The inaugural Japan Oshi-katsu Award 2026 was held at Tokyo Big Sight to recognize individuals and entities that have significantly contributed to the growth of fandom culture. The award, established by RX Japan, honors those who drive the rapidly expanding market of ‘oshi-katsu’ (supporting one's favorite idols or characters).

Kento Nakajima received the award in the Male Idol category, recognized for his innovative fan engagement tools like the ‘IDOLIC Magic’ lightstick. In the Female Idol category, AKB48 was honored for their long-standing role in shaping fan-participation culture. Shoko Nakagawa won in the Talent category, while Kizuna AI was recognized in the VTuber category, and Sanrio’s Pompompurin took the Character category award.

During the ceremony, winners expressed gratitude to their supporters, with AKB48 members describing fans as the ‘gasoline’ that drives their activities.
