Japan petroleum industry to launch safety campaign for hazardous material unloading
The petroleum industry in Japan will conduct a unified safety campaign from November 1 to November 14, 2026, to prevent accidents during the unloading of hazardous materials. The initiative aims to reduce incidents such as oil mixing, incorrect injection, and overflows, which can lead to major disasters.
A primary focus of the campaign is promoting mutual presence and verification between the party unloading the materials and the party receiving them. This includes checking fuel types, quantities, tank levels, and injection points, as well as taking measures to prevent static electricity accidents.
The campaign is organized by the Petroleum Federation, the National Federation of Petroleum Commercial Cooperatives, and the All Japan Trucking Association, with support from the Fire and Disaster Management Agency and the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy. Activities include the distribution of posters and instructional materials to gas stations and industrial consumers, as well as awareness efforts via industry websites.
