Japan reports multiple bear sightings and vehicle attacks

Multiple reports of bear sightings and encounters have emerged across several regions in Japan, including Hokkaido, Akita, Toyama, and Yamaguchi prefectures.

In Bifu, Hokkaido, a mother bear and cub were filmed attacking a moving vehicle, biting the body and striking the hood. The driver was uninjured despite damage to the car. In Akita, sightings were reported in residential areas of Akita City and near local parks, prompting police patrols and warnings to residents.

Other reports include the sighting of two bears in Toyama City, which prompted investigations by local authorities and hunting associations, and a small cub spotted on a road in Shunan, Yamaguchi.

Experts note that while bears are often perceived as vengeful, aggressive behaviors are typically driven by hunger, surprise, or defensive instincts to protect cubs, rather than human-directed malice.
