Japan police launch safety initiatives for foreign residents

Japanese police departments and private companies are increasing efforts to provide safety and crime prevention education to foreign residents and workers to address rising traffic accidents and social integration challenges.

In Saitama Prefecture, the Saitama Prefectural Police appointed six foreign traffic safety advisors. These advisors, who are well-versed in international circumstances, will serve until March 2027. Their role involves educating foreign residents on Japanese traffic rules and highlighting differences between Japanese regulations and those of their home countries to mitigate accidents involving foreign nationals.

In Kagawa Prefecture, AKANE Co., Ltd. collaborated with the Kagawa Prefectural Police and Higashikagawa Police Station to host a safety seminar for foreign employees. The training focused on crime prevention—specifically addressing the risks of ‘dark part-time jobs’ (criminal solicitation via social media)—and updated traffic regulations, such as new bicycle rules and helmet requirements. The initiative aims to help foreign workers navigate local laws and integrate safely into the community.
