Japan police report violent grocery store robbery and cryptocurrency fraud
Police in Fukuoka have arrested three individuals, including a 23-year-old construction worker, in connection with a violent robbery at a Vietnamese grocery store. During business hours, the suspects entered the shop armed with knives and golf clubs, threatening an employee and stealing approximately 4.1 million yen. A female customer was also injured during the incident. Authorities are investigating whether the group was organized, potentially linked to criminal networks recruited via social media.
In a separate incident in Tsuruga, Fukui Prefecture, a man in his 20s was defrauded of approximately 1.14 million yen in cryptocurrency through a police impersonation scam. The victim received calls from an individual claiming to be an officer, alleging that his bank account was linked to a fraud investigation. After being shown fake detention orders via email, the victim followed instructions to borrow money from consumer finance companies to purchase and transfer cryptocurrency to the scammers' addresses.
