Japan Post Bank to phase out FamilyMart ATMs by 2027

Japan Post Bank has announced that it will gradually phase out its dedicated ATMs located within FamilyMart convenience stores starting in January 2027. The move affects approximately 5,400 machines, which are expected to be removed over a period of about three years.

The decision follows FamilyMart’s shift toward introducing “Famima ATMs” in collaboration with Seven Bank. While the specific Japan Post Bank ATMs will be removed, customers can continue to use their Japan Post Bank cash cards at the new Famima ATMs for deposits, withdrawals, and balance inquiries.

However, the transition will result in higher transaction fees for users. Currently, many daytime transactions at FamilyMart Japan Post Bank ATMs are free. Under the new system, users will face fees of 220 yen during weekday daytime hours (8:45 to 18:00) and Saturday mornings (9:00 to 12:00/14:00), while fees for other times will increase to 330 yen. Balance inquiries will remain free.
