Japan Post reports potential data leak via Postal Service App

Japan Post Holdings and Japan Post announced on September 29 that the ‘Postal Service App’ suffered unauthorized access. This incident may have resulted in the leak of customer information related to the app and ‘Yu ID’ for 69 records, affecting 19 individuals.

The potentially compromised data includes names, addresses, dates of birth, gender, phone numbers, email addresses, workplace information, and family details. Additionally, information stored in address books—such as company names and contact details—as well as shipping label data, including sender and recipient information, tracking numbers, and item names, may have been exposed.

In response to the breach, the Postal Service App underwent emergency maintenance starting late on September 25 and was restored on September 26 following investigations and security measures. The companies plan to contact affected users individually via written correspondence as soon as preparations are complete.
