On August 3, 2026, the Fukuoka metropolitan area marked “Water Week” with a public campaign to raise awareness of water scarcity. About 80 local officials and volunteers gathered at JR Hakata Station, distributing flyers and seaweed grown with water from the Chikugo River. The region, which receives roughly one‑third of its supply from the Chikugo River, reported that the storage level of its 21 major dams was 79.1 % on July 29, comparable to the usual level, and officials urged continued water‑saving habits.
A week earlier, on August 1, TOTO’s Takamatsu showroom hosted a “Water Day” event for families. The program, part of the Shikoku “Uruoi Baton 2026” initiative, featured hands‑on experiments such as turning water into a gel, demonstrations of TOTO’s tornado‑wash technology, and a mini‑seminar by the NPO “Mori kara Tsuzuku Michi” on protecting endangered dragonflies in local ponds. The showroom was illuminated in blue light through August 7, and messages collected at the event will be displayed on a collective “Uruoi Panel” at the end of the campaign on August 30.
