Japan railway updates: station connection plans and Kosei Line service disruption

In Japan, major railway developments and incidents have been reported in the Kanto and Kansai regions. JR East and Seibu Railway have announced plans to construct an all-weather, covered connection between Akitsu Station and Shin-Akitsu Station. Scheduled for completion in the early 2030s, the project aims to reduce transfer times from approximately eight minutes to four or five minutes, while improving safety and accessibility by removing the need for passengers to walk through narrow shopping streets.

Additionally, JR West reported a service suspension on the Kosei Line between Katata and Omi-Imadzu on August 26. The disruption occurred after a freight train made contact with a passenger at Wani Station in Otsu City. Service was expected to resume by mid-afternoon.
