Japan ranked top destination for retired travelers
A recent international study by Firebird Tours, titled ‘Where Being 60 Beats Being 20’, has ranked the best countries for retired travelers. The research compared 100 countries based on seven criteria, including the proportion of citizens over 65, available senior discounts, walkability, healthcare quality, public safety, and cultural programming.
Japan secured the top position, driven by its high percentage of elderly residents and significant benefits for seniors, such as free admission to the Tokyo National Museum for those over 70. European destinations dominated the top five, with Germany, Spain, Slovenia, and Switzerland following Japan.
Europe's strength in this ranking is attributed to safe, walkable historic city centers, advanced public transportation, and high-standard healthcare systems. Hungary was ranked 13th in the global list.
