Japan regions hold bus driving experiences to combat driver shortages

Various regions in Japan are hosting hands-on bus driving experiences and career fairs to address critical shortages of bus drivers.

In Kushiro, Hokkaido, the Kushine District Bus Association organized a joint driving experience and employment consultation event. Forty-nine participants practiced driving actual route buses on a testing course under the guidance of professionals from companies including Kushiro Bus, Akan Bus, and Nemuro Kotsu. The event aims to encourage individuals to consider public transportation roles as a career option.

Similarly, in northern Kyoto Prefecture, the Kyoto Northern Region Public Transport Activation Council held a “Bus Experience Fair” in Yosano Town. The event included bus rides, driving experiences, and garage tours to foster familiarity with local transit and attract new drivers to the industry.
