Japan reports multiple bear sightings and attacks across several prefectures

Multiple regions in Japan have reported increased wildlife activity, specifically involving bears and boars, leading to public safety concerns and emergency measures.

In Kyoto Prefecture, Maizuru City conducted its first-ever ‘emergency gun hunting’ after a pair of Asiatic black bears were found under a residence. While two bears were culled using tranquilizer guns, one cub remains at large. In Nagano Prefecture, a 61-year-old man was injured after being attacked by a bear while mushroom picking in Ina City; he managed to escape to a relative's home after a struggle.

In Yamanashi Prefecture, the Mt. Fuji Science Institute temporarily closed its parking area after a bear was spotted on-site. Additionally, in Niigata Prefecture, authorities in Uonuma City have issued warnings following reports of a bear and a boar in the area.
