Japan retail app usage rises, led by 30.3% growth in men in their 20s
Fuller Co., Ltd. has released the ‘Retail App Generational Usage Trend Report 2026’, analyzing domestic retail app usage in Japan from January 2025 to June 2026. The study covered eight sectors, including convenience stores, supermarkets, department stores, and drugstores.
The report indicates an upward trend in monthly usage time per user. In June 2026, all male and female demographics aged 20 and older showed increased usage compared to the previous year. Notably, usage time among men in their 20s rose by 30.3%, the highest growth rate recorded.
Data also reveals that older demographics tend to use a higher number of different retail apps. Approximately 30.0% of users aged 60 and older utilized five or more retail apps per month. In contrast, 54.4% of users in their teens used only a single app, suggesting that younger users may concentrate their activity on specific platforms while older users frequently switch between multiple retail chains.
