Japan robotics developments: NSK and Atom partner for humanoids
Several robotics events and developments were highlighted in Japan. At the Rescue Robot Contest 2026 held in Kobe, technologies focused on disaster relief and social implementation were showcased.
In a significant move for domestic humanoid development, NSK and the startup Atom signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on humanoid robot production. The partnership aims to leverage NSK’s rotary actuators for humanoid applications.
Additionally, the 5th Pipe RoboCon National Championship took place in Yamagata. The competition uses hobby robots based on actual pipeline inspection technology to engage younger generations in the construction equipment industry. The event featured various categories, including a new autonomous class for programmed driving.
