Japan Accelerates AI Development with KDDI‑Google Startup Program and Massive Government‑Backed Data Center

KDDI Corporation and Google’s AI Futures Fund launched an AI startup support program in Japan on July 28, 2026. The initiative provides funding, early access to Google DeepMind models such as Gemini, GPU Cloud trials, and expert implementation assistance to domestic AI startups.

The Japanese government has earmarked roughly 3.9 trillion yen to fund Noetra’s construction of the nation’s largest AI data center. Backed by SoftBank, Sony, Honda and NEC, the project plans to install about 380 Nvidia "Bera Rubi" AI server racks beginning in April 2027, creating a major domestic AI infrastructure platform.
