Japan Sakura Fifteen to face Fijiana XV in Fukuoka Test

The Japan Sakura Fifteen will face the Fijiana XV in a Test rugby match in Fukuoka on September 4, 2026. The match serves as a precursor to the WXV 2026 tournament.

Japan enters the match under the leadership of new full-time Head Coach Toshizumi Kitagawa. Kitagawa, who previously served as interim coach, has expressed ambitions for the team to reach the top eight in world rankings and the quarterfinals of the 2029 Rugby World Cup. The Japanese squad features a younger roster, including three potential debutants: Nami Asari, Maiko Nishi, and Honoka Tsunokawa.

Fiji's Fijiana XV, captained by Kolora Lomani, aims to utilize a combination of physicality and pace. The Fijian lineup includes notable selections such as Merewairita Neivoha, who moves into an openside flanker role, and a front row consisting of Karalaini Naisewa, Keleni Marawa, and Tiana Robanakadavu. The contest is expected to test Fiji's defensive organization and ball security against Japan's disciplined style of play.
