Japan Schedules Summer Kyoto Festivals and Nagoya Coin Show in August 2026

Kyoto will host a series of cultural events in early August 2026, beginning with the closing ceremony of the Gion Festival, the Epidemic Shrine Summer Festival on July 31. From August 1 to 16 the Kitano Tenmangu will hold the Mitarashi Festival, featuring a foot‑immersion ritual for health blessings. Additional programs include historic walking tours of Buddhist temples and shrines, special summer openings of cultural properties such as the former Mitsui residence, and a summer exhibit at Ruriko-in temple.

In Nagoya, the 8th Nagoya Coin Show is set for August 22‑24 at the Winck Aichi exhibition hall. The three‑day, free‑admission event will bring together 31 domestic and international coin dealers, offering exhibitions, a sale floor, free appraisals and a special commemorative 1,000‑yen silver coin marking the 100th anniversary of the Showa era. The show is supported by the Japan Mint, the National Printing Bureau and several international mints.
