Japan school sports adopt heatstroke prevention measures amid extreme summer heat

The Miyagi Prefectural Middle School Sports Federation issued detailed guidelines to reduce heatstroke risk at its upcoming comprehensive school sports meet. Recommendations include adequate breakfast, sleep and hydration starting the day before competition, regular health checks, provision of oral rehydration solutions, ice and hats, and the option to limit spectator numbers for outdoor events. Teams must monitor athletes and replace any who show signs of illness, contacting event officials and arranging ambulance transport if needed.

Similarly, regional high‑school baseball tournaments across Japan will run games in a morning‑evening two‑session format and adopt additional spectator precautions to protect players from intense heat. Organisers stress regular breaks, water intake and close observation of all participants, including younger students and supporters, to prevent heat‑related incidents.
