Japan sees sudden rainstorms, hail and heat as tropical low develops
On June 19, Japan experienced rapid weather changes. Heavy rain fell in Kyushu and the north‑west, while hail was reported in Nagano and thunderstorms struck Gunma and Shibukawa. Parts of the Kanto region, including Tokyo, recorded true summer temperatures of around 30 °C, the first such heat in years.
A tropical low‑pressure system, described as a “typhoon egg,” formed south of the Japanese archipelago, prompting concerns for upcoming weekend events such as the Kawasaki food festival. Organisers are monitoring the rain threat and have set up sheltered areas to mitigate possible disruptions.
