Japan Self-Defense Forces Enforce Discipline in Multiple Cases

A member of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force stationed at the Kaita base in Hiroshima was dismissed after stealing 20,000 yen from a colleague, citing overdue debt as a motive. The dismissal was announced on August 6, with officials emphasizing stricter education to prevent recurrence.

At the Japan Air Self-Defense Force’s Komatsu base, three personnel received suspensions for separate violations: a senior airman was suspended for four months after installing a hidden camera in a base restroom, another airman received a ten‑day suspension for causing a fatal traffic accident that killed a pedestrian, and a third was suspended for three months after a drunk‑driving rollover accident. Base commanders stressed the seriousness of the misconduct and pledged to restore public trust.
