Japan Summer League 2026 opens in Okinawa for high school baseball players

The Japan Summer League 2026 (JSL2026) commenced on August 17 at Koza Shinkin Stadium in Okinawa. Organized by Japan League Co., Ltd., the five-day event features 36 high school seniors from 27 schools across 10 prefectures who did not qualify for the Koshien tournament.

Participants are organized into league-formed teams rather than school-based units, ensuring all players receive playing time. The tournament utilizes advanced technology, including TrackMan and BLAST, to provide real-time data on pitch velocity, spin rate, and hit speed, offering high-level analytical feedback often unavailable to regional players.

As part of a partnership with K.O.H., a company owned by Major League Baseball player Yusei Kikuchi, the league includes professional coaching. Former Seibu Lions pitcher Yuto Akagami serves as a pitching coordinator. The event also functions as a “sports open campus,” incorporating lectures on physical training, self-analysis, and sports careers.
