Japan Summer League 2026 to boost declining high‑school baseball in Okinawa

Japan League, a sports‑venture that runs the Japan Summer League (JSL) for high‑school players who missed the Koshien tournament, signed a partnership with the all‑weather baseball facility operator K. O. H. The two will jointly host JSL 2026 from 17‑21 August at the Koza Shin‑Kin Stadium in Okinawa City. Former professional pitcher Yuto Akagami, who once reached 155 km/h, will serve as the league’s pitching coordinator, providing data‑driven coaching through TrackMan and BLAST systems.

The league was launched in 2025 as a response to a steady decline in high‑school baseball participation – 11 consecutive years of drop‑off, with a 26 % reduction in players since 2014 according to the Japanese High School Baseball Federation. The inaugural 2025 event attracted 37 players and generated an estimated economic impact of ¥91 million for Okinawa. Organisers say the demand for competitive summer play and scientific training remains high, and they intend to link the summer league with the Japan Winter League in future seasons.
