Japan survey: 63.3% of parents unaware of home learning attendance system

A survey conducted by LeveColle LLC among 60 parents of children experiencing school refusal reveals that 63.3% were unaware of the system that allows home-based learning to be recognized as school attendance. Under this system, school principals can grant attendance credit for ICT-based learning if specific requirements are met, though it requires coordination between parents and schools.

The survey found that 60% of the children began experiencing school refusal during elementary school, with the highest frequency occurring in the lower grades. Regarding educational materials, 'Shinkenzemi' was the most commonly used resource, cited by 43.3% of respondents.

Parents expressed significant anxiety regarding academic delays, potential impacts on future school advancement, and the difficulty of maintaining learning habits at home. Common responses to these challenges included utilizing correspondence education, tablet-based learning, tutors, or free schools.
