Japan survey highlights household clutter challenges and disposal trends

A survey conducted by Iegahoshii Co., Ltd. involving 500 participants across Japan reveals common challenges regarding household clutter. The study found that the primary consequences of delaying decluttering are messy rooms (28.8%) and insufficient storage (18.6%). The most common items kept in homes despite the intention to discard them are clothing (26.6%) and home appliances (25.6%), followed by children's items and furniture.

Respondents noted that difficulty in disposing of heavy items, complex disposal procedures for electronics, and emotional attachments often prevent effective cleaning. Some participants reported that clutter has led to reduced living space and difficulty finding necessary items.
