Japan tech updates: Edge AI, SDV software, and SiC research

Several technological advancements and research findings are being highlighted in connection with upcoming and recent industry events in Japan.

At the upcoming EdgeTech+ 2026 exhibition in Yokohama, Sunway Technology plans to demonstrate industrial and edge AI computers designed for harsh environments. Their showcase will include automotive PCs capable of handling vibration and power control, as well as waterproof and temperature-resistant models for edge AI applications. Additionally, Aisin will deliver a keynote at the Automotive Software Expo during the same event, discussing software strategies for the Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) era and how to adapt to evolving E/E architectures.

In the field of semiconductor research, Kwansei Gakuin University presented significant findings regarding Silicon Carbide (SiC) at the ICSCRM 2026 international conference held in Yokohama. Researchers from the university shared decades of work on SiC crystal growth and material stability, emphasizing industry-academic collaborations to move research from the laboratory into practical social applications.
