Japan technology and business updates: autonomous logistics, real estate, and AI trends

Several Japanese companies have announced new developments in logistics, real estate, and artificial intelligence.

Mitsui-Soko Logistics and T2 conducted a demonstration of transporting Hitachi Industrial Equipment Systems' air compressors and service parts using autonomous trucks between the Kanto and Kansai regions. The trial, which utilized Level 2 autonomous driving on highways, aims to address labor shortages and explore the feasibility of regular commercial transport using Level 4 autonomous technology.

In the real estate sector, Estate Technologies is launching ‘Nippon Baeru Fudosan’ on September 1, 2026. This gallery focuses on high-value condominium features like roof balconies and island kitchens, responding to a market shift where buyers prioritize lifestyle value over price due to rising interest rates and stagnant transaction volumes.

Regarding AI, a survey by TWOSTONE&Sons reveals significant challenges in corporate AI adoption. Among 111 executives at companies with over 300 employees, 94.6% expressed a sense of crisis regarding competition, and 91.9% reported experiencing stagnation or failure in internally led AI projects, often due to difficulties in strategic design rather than tool selection.
