Japan deploys 10,000 police for ASIAD 2026 security

Japan is implementing extensive security measures for the ASIAD 2026 opening ceremony, which will be attended by Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako. The National Police Agency is mobilizing approximately 10,000 officers, including 3,100 special units from across the country. Security protocols include establishing a no-fly zone for drones within a 1 km radius of the ceremony and the Imperial residence, marking the first application of new drone regulations for an event involving the Emperor.

To combat the threat of “lone offenders,” authorities are establishing the “ASIAD Lone Offender Threat Information Center,” a first-of-its-kind initiative for a non-national election event. The center aims to identify and mitigate risks from individuals acting without formal terrorist affiliations.

In sports competition, the Vietnamese delegation is actively competing on the second day of the games. Key focus areas include wushu, with athletes like Nguyen Thi Hien and Nguyen Trong Lam seeking medals, and shooting, featuring Nguyen Tam Quang and Nguyen Minh Quang. Other notable activities involve swimming, karate, and women's football, as Vietnam prepares for matches against Indonesia and Thailand.
