Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games face weather disruptions and typhoon concerns

The 20th Asian Games, officially known as Aichi-Nagoya 2026, are set to take place in Japan from September 19 to October 4, 2026. The event features 41 sports and will host over 15,000 athletes from 45 countries.

Recent heavy rainfall has caused significant disruptions to the competition schedule. A women's cricket match between Bangladesh and China was abandoned due to an unplayable outfield at Korogi Athletic Park, allowing Bangladesh to advance to the semifinals based on higher seeding. Additionally, rowing events originally scheduled for September 20 have been rescheduled to September 21 following damage to docks caused by rain.

Concerns are rising regarding the potential approach of Typhoon Dujuan during the opening week. In sports action, the South Korean men's basketball team has reached the semifinals after a decisive 114-80 victory over Jordan. The South Korean U-23 football team also secured a 4-1 win against Qatar in their opening match.

Logistical preparations are underway in Nagoya, where delegations will be housed in various locations, including the cruise ship Costa Serena and local hotels. The Lebanese delegation has already arrived to begin preparations for their participation.
