Japan ranked top in 2026 World Economic Forum tourism index
The World Economic Forum (WEF) has released its 2026 Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI), naming Japan as the world’s top country for travel and tourism. The index evaluates various factors including air transport infrastructure, price competitiveness, safety, hotel prices, visa requirements, public transport efficiency, and the number of UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Japan secured the first position by successfully expanding its visitor base and encouraging travel beyond major urban centers to reduce congestion. The United States follows in second place. Europe shows strong performance in the top ten, with Spain ranking third, France fifth, Germany sixth, the United Kingdom seventh, Switzerland ninth, and Italy tenth.
