Japan tourism tech startups launch new inbound traveler data services
Two Japanese companies have launched new digital services designed to help local governments and businesses analyze the movement and demographics of inbound tourists using mobile data.
Common Creation Co., Ltd. has introduced “Tabimetry,” a service that utilizes eSIM technology to collect both attribute information via surveys and movement data through base station positioning. By providing free eSIMs to travelers, the company can capture detailed data on where tourists go and in what order without requiring the installation of specialized GPS apps. This method allows for tracking in areas where GPS signals may be weak, such as underground malls or subways.
Navitime Japan has also released “Inbound Profiler Focus,” a web-based analysis service for businesses. This tool uses GPS data and attribute surveys obtained from the “Japan Travel by NAVITIME” app. The service allows users to monitor visitor numbers, nationality compositions, and seasonal trends at specific locations. It also offers optional features to analyze travel itineraries and movement between multiple points, with data updated as recently as the previous day to allow for rapid response to tourism campaigns.
