Japan travel highlights Bitchu Matsuyama Castle and Kii Peninsula shrines

Travel accounts detail visits to significant historical and cultural sites across Japan, including the Kii Peninsula and Okayama Prefecture.

In the Kii Peninsula, travelers visited Kumano Nachi Taisha and Nachi Falls, noting the spiritual atmosphere and the physical effort required to navigate the stone steps. The journey continued through Nachi Kasatsu to Ise, where visitors explored the Geku (Outer Shrine) of the Ise Grand Shrine.

In Okayama Prefecture, Bitchu Matsuyama Castle, recognized as the only remaining mountain castle among Japan's twelve original keeps, was visited. The site is noted for its steep access, historic stone walls, and its status as a National Important Cultural Property. The castle is also known for its resident cat, Sanju-ro, which holds the title of cat lord.
