U-21 Japan advances to Asian Games knockout stage with 7-0 win over Kyrgyzstan

The U-21 Japan national football team secured a place in the knockout stage of the Asian Games after a dominant 7-0 victory over Kyrgyzstan at Toyota Stadium. Following a 2-0 win against Hong Kong in their opening match, Japan’s second consecutive win guarantees them a top-two finish in Group A.

Japan’s scoring was spread across the squad, with goals from Yuki Yokoyama, Shuto Nagino, Yuto Ozeki, Yota Nakajima, Keisuke Ishii, and Yuda Shimamoto. Despite the high scoreline, manager Tsuyoshi Oiwa noted that the match was competitive in terms of content and highlighted the need for better game control and defensive transitions.

Individual performances were a focus, including goalkeeper Rui Araki, who is competing for the starting position, and defender Soichiro Mori, who expressed motivation to perform well in his home region. Japan will face Thailand in their final group match on September 23.
