Japan university events link students with local firms for consulting and recruitment
On August 5, Iwate University in Morioka hosted a hands‑on consulting event where nine undergraduate and graduate students worked with two local companies. One group partnered with the regional bakery White Stone Food Industry to devise ideas for boosting awareness of its signature "bean‑bread roll," proposing a campus‑café collaboration to reach younger consumers. The event was organized by the consulting firm Forval, which aims to foster student‑company interaction and support regional revitalisation.
A separate job‑scouting event, Deai‑ba, took place in Sendai on August 3. Targeting university students slated to graduate in March 2028, the two‑day gathering brought together about 60 participants for group‑discussion sessions that allowed companies to assess non‑cognitive skills and extend immediate internship or hiring offers. Deai‑ba promotes direct scouting and has attracted over 80,000 students nationwide since its inception.
Both events illustrate a growing trend in Japan of university‑led programmes that connect students with local businesses for practical problem‑solving and recruitment, aiming to retain talent in regional economies.
