Japan University of Economics faculty and students represent Japan in international basketball

Faculty and students from the Japan University of Economics represented Japan in several international basketball competitions during the summer of 2026.

Professor Akimitsu Katagiri, head coach of the university's men's basketball team, served as a coach for the Japanese national team at the 45th William Jones Cup held in Taiwan. The tournament featured various regional representative teams.

In South Korea, Koyuki Nakao, a third-year student from the women's basketball team, was selected as a member of the Japan Student Selection team for the 2026 WKBL Futures League. Associate Professor Tomohito Anura also participated as an assistant coach for the squad.

The university continues to integrate international competitive experience with community engagement, such as hosting basketball clinics for local youth in Saga Prefecture.
