Japan unveils 2026 subsidies for carbon‑neutral building and energy‑efficient sewage systems

The Japanese government has opened applications for two fiscal 2026 subsidy programmes aimed at reducing carbon emissions. One programme, the Reiwa 8 Building GX/DX Promotion Project, supports construction firms that create BIM data or conduct life‑cycle CO₂ (LCCO2) assessments. It covers up to half of additional BIM‑related costs and provides a fixed grant of up to ¥6.5 million per LCCO2 evaluation, with applications accepted from 1 July to 30 September 2026.

A second programme, the Reiwa 8 Energy‑Efficient Sewage‑System Promotion Project, targets medium‑large sewage treatment facilities. It finances upgrades to high‑efficiency blowers, advanced low‑energy systems, or renewable‑energy‑based treatment units to achieve substantial CO₂ reductions. Both initiatives are part of the broader 2026 carbon‑emission‑reduction grant framework overseen by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
