Japan weather alert: Heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast
Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected across several regions of Japan due to a low-pressure system and a stationary front. The Hokuriku region, including Niigata, Toyama, Ishikawa, and Fukui, faces significant risks of flooding in low-lying areas and rising river levels. Forecasts indicate maximum 24-hour precipitation levels reaching 120mm in Ishikawa and 100mm in Toyama.
In the Kinki and Tokai regions, including Kyoto and Shiga, residents are warned of sudden heavy thunderstorms, lightning, and the potential for tornadoes. Unstable atmospheric conditions may lead to severe weather through the morning of October 20.
Nationwide, much of the country will experience rain, with warmer and humid conditions persisting in eastern and southern areas. Additionally, Typhoon 30 is expected to approach the Okinawa region toward the end of the week, potentially causing rough seas and heavy rain in the islands.
