Japan women's volleyball team advances to Asian Championship quarterfinals

The Japan women's national volleyball team has secured a spot in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics by advancing to the quarterfinals of the Asian Championship in Tianjin, China. After an initial straight-set victory against Hong Kong, Japan defeated South Korea 3-0 in their second preliminary round match.

Despite the win, players expressed a need for improvement. Setter Nanami Seki noted issues with serve strength and combination precision, while captain Mayu Ishikawa highlighted the need to reduce unforced errors and improve reception quality. The team's performance against South Korea was described as a struggle despite the straight-set score, as they faced intense competition in the opening set.

Japan will face Vietnam in their final preliminary round match on August 25. The team's goal is to win the championship to guarantee their Olympic qualification.
