Japanese agricultural regions begin autumn fruit harvests

Agricultural regions in Japan are entering the autumn harvest season with significant local activity. In Sakata City, Yamagata Prefecture, producers held a shipment meeting for the Kariya pear brand at the JA Shonai Midori Hokubu sorting facility. Due to favorable spring weather, the harvest of the Kosui variety is expected to begin approximately one week earlier than usual. This season, the JA Sakata Horticulture Center anticipates shipping 17,300 cases of Kosui and 5,500 cases of Hosui pears.

In Iida City, Nagano Prefecture, the agricultural direct sales outlet ‘Ringo no Sato’ is experiencing high volumes of visitors, primarily tourists from the Tokyo metropolitan and Chukyo areas. The facility is seeing steady business as seasonal autumn fruits, including apples, begin to appear on shelves.
