Japanese artisans debut new wine branding and patented lacquer glassware

Various Japanese artisans and companies are introducing specialized craft products focused on sensory experience and innovative materials.

Morisawa has collaborated with Felissimo’s “f winery” to redesign wine labels and neck tags for their Kobe-grown Japanese wines. The project aimed to use typography to better communicate the personality and craftsmanship of the wines, specifically for their limited-edition No. 136 white wine and No. 137 red wine.

In the realm of traditional crafts, lacquer artist Hisayo Muto has released new glassware in the “TsuTsuMu” series. Utilizing a patented “Core Urushi” technique, Muto integrates broken glass fragments with lacquer structures that are approximately 1mm thick. The new additions include the “Mio” wine glass and “In” brandy glass, which feature tapered shapes designed to capture aromas.
