Japanese automakers unveil innovative electric concept cars

Mitsubishi Motors showcased the i‑MiEV Sport, a compact two‑door electric sports car concept that debuted at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. The vehicle features a 4WD system with three in‑wheel motors, an E‑4WD and electric active yaw control, as well as solar panels and wind‑generated power to supplement its battery. Although never mass‑produced, the i‑MiEV Sport demonstrated Mitsubishi’s approach to combining high‑performance electric drivetrain technology with a lightweight, low‑profile design.

Mazda Motor introduced the MX‑30 Rotary EV, an SUV that blends a plug‑in hybrid powertrain with the brand’s signature rotary engine used as a generator. The model offers “freestyle” opposite‑opening doors, a cork‑finished interior, a 17.8 kWh battery delivering up to 107 km of electric range, and a 170 hp combined output. Prices range from ¥44.33 million to ¥49.83 million.
