Japanese automakers update and launch new light electric vehicles

Mitsubishi Motors has released an updated version of its Minicab EV, a light commercial electric van, as of September 17, 2026. The improvements focus on enhanced safety and connectivity for business users. Key updates include the ‘Mitsubishi e-Assist’ system, which now features collision mitigation braking capable of detecting pedestrians and cyclists at night, and a traffic sign recognition system that displays stop and no-entry signs on the instrument cluster. Additionally, a new telematics option supports fleet management services for corporate users.

Separately, Suzuki has revealed details for its upcoming ‘e SKY’ light electric vehicle. Designed to address common concerns regarding range and charging, the e SKY offers a driving range of 310km (WLTC mode) and features efficient charging capabilities, including a 25-minute rapid charge to 80% capacity. The vehicle is expected to enter the market with a starting price in the 2.12 million yen range.
