Japanese baseball sees draft prospects and FA risks
As the professional baseball draft approaches on the 22nd, several prospects from Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures are emerging as top candidates for first-round selections. Among the university players, Yuto Yonezawa of Kansai University, a left-handed pitcher from Suzu, is highly regarded following his MVP performance in the All Japan University Baseball Championship. In the high school category, Yudai Maeda of Takaoka Ichigo High School is drawing attention as a powerful right-hander capable of reaching 156 km/h.
Separately, the Hiroshima Toyo Carp face potential roster depletion due to upcoming Free Agency (FA) decisions. Key players Hiroki Tokoda, Masato Morishita, and Shogo Sakakura are all approaching FA status. Analysts suggest that because the Carp have struggled to maintain championship contention and may lack the financial resources of larger clubs, there is a significant risk that these core players could depart for teams capable of competing for titles.
