Japanese beetle activity increases in Slovenia

The Japanese beetle has shown increased activity in Slovenia this year, with the peak of the infestation occurring in early July, approximately three weeks earlier than in 2025. The Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Food Safety, Veterinary Sector and Plant Protection has reported higher activity levels in the Ljubljana–Barje and Lukovica regions.

While the pest is causing damage to leaves, there is currently no evidence of significant economic damage or spread outside the affected areas, as no beetles have been detected in protective zones. Authorities plan to continue mass trapping with pheromone traps, inspecting host plants, and monitoring population numbers through the end of September. Soil sampling and measures against larvae in the ground are scheduled for the autumn.
