Japanese boxers set new world title records in Yokohama

Two Japanese boxers set significant records during a double world title event held at Yokohama BUNTAI on September 2.

In the main event, Daiya Kira captured the WBA world light flyweight title by defeating Carlos Canizales via TKO in the seventh round. By winning the belt in just his fifth professional fight, Kira tied the Japanese men's record for the fastest ascent to a world title, matching the achievement of Kosei Tanaka.

In the semi-final, Takeshi Ishii secured the WBA world minimumweight title with a first-round knockout of Wilfredo Mendez. Ishii’s victory came in just 65 seconds, setting a new Japanese record for the fastest knockout in a world title match, surpassing the previous record of 70 seconds held by Naoya Inoue.
