Japanese business leaders debate AI's impact on creativity and workplace management

Japanese business leaders and economic reports are highlighting the complex challenges of integrating artificial intelligence into the workplace. Former Yoshimoto Kogyo Chairman Hiroshi Osaki and STARTO ENTERTAINMENT founding CEO Atsushi Fukuda argue that while AI is an excellent tool for efficiency, it lacks the “human madness,” passion, and irrationality required to create truly moving entertainment or groundbreaking innovation. They suggest that over-reliance on AI can lead to mediocre, “80-point” results that lack emotional depth.

Beyond creativity, AI is impacting organizational dynamics and productivity. Economic reports indicate a paradox where AI usage may actually increase overtime as companies struggle to manage the time saved. Furthermore, new workplace issues are emerging, such as “fukihara” (mood harassment) where disgruntled employees lower team morale, and the rise of “internal complainers” who use generative AI to craft highly sophisticated, persuasive grievances, consuming significant management resources.
