Japanese care facilities face staff misconduct scandals

In Yokote City, Akita Prefecture, a municipal care worker in his 60s was penalised for neglecting a resident, receiving a salary reduction to one‑tenth for one month, while two supervisors were formally reprimanded.

In a separate incident in Chiba Prefecture, a foreign trainee care worker filmed elderly residents without consent and posted the footage on TikTok. The operating company, Mount Bird, issued a public apology, announced an investigation and said disciplinary action would be taken against the staff member.

Both cases highlight serious abuse and privacy violations within Japan’s elder‑care sector, prompting scrutiny of staff conduct and facility oversight.
