Japanese celebrities and individuals discuss parenting challenges

Discussions regarding parenting styles and responsibilities have surfaced through personal accounts and celebrity commentary in Japan.

On the ABEMA program ‘Ura-aka Uraraka’, model Chihiro Kondo expressed frustration with her husband, Hirohisa Ota of Jungle Pocket, regarding his permissive parenting. Kondo noted that Ota frequently gives in to their children's requests for toys and prizes, often telling the children to keep the purchases a secret from her. She further criticized his tendency to use her as a disciplinarian by telling the children, ‘Mama is coming,’ which leads her to feel as though she is perceived as the ‘villain’ or ‘demon’ in the household.

In a separate personal account, a single mother shared her distress following a confrontation with her ex-husband. After their son expressed a desire to live with his father, the ex-husband reportedly refused, citing work commitments and his plans to live with a new partner, stating that a child would be a burden to his new lifestyle.
