Japanese companies announce new product growth, AI search, and recycling initiatives

Several Japanese companies are implementing new business strategies and technological updates. Descente Japan has seen a significant rise in its ORI-ERI TOUGH POLO SHIRT sales, with volume expected to increase tenfold over three years despite a high price point of 17,600 yen. The product utilizes specialized domestic manufacturing and functional materials.

Yomiuri Shimbun announced that it will integrate AI search capabilities into its 'Yomidas' article database starting September 1, 2026. This update will allow users to search through more than 19 million archived articles using natural language and ambiguous queries rather than relying solely on specific keywords.

In a sustainability initiative, Lawson is partnering with Corelex Shinei to recycle discarded receipts into toilet paper. Starting September 1, a pilot program will operate across 12 stores in Fuji City, Shizuoka. This follows previous trials in Tokyo and aims to address the 200,000 kilograms of receipt waste Lawson generates annually.
